College Baseball Pitch Clock: NCAA Rules

A manual 20-second training clock, with the season kept in view.

Reviewed November 5, 2026 · January 2026 operations guide

The current training profile is a 20-second action clock. It uses the same duration with or without runners; it does not inherit MLB's 18-second setting or disengagement logic.

When does the action clock start?

After a dead ball, readiness and the plate umpire's signal govern the start. With the ball live during an at-bat, the guide ties timing to the pitcher's possession on or near the mound and the catcher's position. First pitches and subsequent pitches have different signal conditions.

Why this preset stays manual

Delivery motion, pickoff throws, umpire time and specified reset situations affect operation. A step-off without runners does not itself stop the clock. These are field observations a browser cannot infer. Use Start, Pause and Reset under a knowledgeable operator; the preset does not automate NCAA enforcement.

Shared controls do not mean shared regulations. A custom setting is an exercise duration, not a new league profile.

Use the window in practice

Have a coach operate the clock while the pitcher rehearses a repeatable routine. Record the beginning of delivery motion. When readiness or a field event is uncertain, pause and discuss rather than treating an expired browser timer as an official violation.

Quick answers

Can a phone replace an official scoreboard clock?

This app makes no certified-officiating claim. Device display, background execution and audio differ by browser. Use it for training or unofficial timing.

Is the 2027 change the default here?

No. The college preset is labeled NCAA 2025–26 and stays at 20 seconds. The upcoming Division I change is explained separately.
